Can an Realtor® from Tucson, sell my home here?

Q:  My husband accepted a job transfer out of state so we are going to be selling our home here in the White Mountains.  I have a cousin who is a Realtor in Tucson, can he sell my home here?

A:  When an individual obtains their license in the State of Arizona it grants them “legal” ability to sell or list property all over the state.  However, there are characteristics and values in every market that will be very different from the area where your cousin is experienced.  Per the rules of the Department of Real Estate a “salesperson or broker shall not undertake to provide professional services concerning a type of property or service that is outside the salesperson or broker’s field of competence…”  This is per the Commissioner of Real Estate rules, R4-28-1101.  It is also a violation of the Code of Ethics, Article 11, to go outside of your area of expertise.  It is always in the best interest of the customer or client to refer them to an experienced salesperson or broker in their market to protect their interest and investment.
